Quick question here, but if ASGS can automatically boot people off of the newbie server, why is there a 1 day ban for it?

If they're prevented from joining the newbie server with a kick, isn't that sufficient? Or how often does the server check to see if people are on the newbie server?
No, pants are still optional. But for you, recommended.

ASGS only knows the player was in the game after it's finished, so they can't be kicked out when they join.

A day is still a bit much in my opinion. Possible an hour? The furthest abuse with hour bans is you can play every other game on the newbie server even if your not a newbie.

Better possibility, tack on another hour for each offense along with a clear explaination of why they are getting banned each time.

Discuss.

It has been previously discussed. The system is automatically coded for a reason. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

A one day ban is extreme. The penalty does not fit the crime. At max make it 3 hours. Im pretty sure if you put it out to Poll most people would support a lesser ban. Due to the fact peoples ranks are screwed.

The ban has to be of greater duration because it's only applied "after the fact". If it were something so short as 2 or 3 hours, people would go and whore on the newbie server before signing off for the evening, knowing that by the time they returned the next day the ban would be up.

Okay I understand that. But in the current situation with the ranks being reset and Newbies returning to play allegiance(with a rank of 15) and getting banned because they think they are Newbies (and they are), Is it not best practice to adopt a different policy. All bans are reported on ASGS...no ?...Why not keep track. It might seem like extra work, but it would stop newbies being scared off as they have been banned for an unexplained reason. This problem will likely get worse with the release of the DPLAY 8 R3 release.

If it is going to be too much work keep it as is. I believe its something that should be looked at again by the senate.

I think it's fine the way it is... even the automatic bans are documented on the banlist, and for those that don't check that a quick post and they're told what happened.

The actual occurance is rare, and even more rare is the case of the "returning newbie".

No, no, no, no, no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

< Let's continuously revisit things say every 6 months? Have a long unproductive arguement, let the anger and resentment build sometimes adding in petty name calling of the current forum, database, developer admin ( for maximum fun all of them at once, your choice /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" /> ) until an explosion occurs requiring dramatic posting and bans................ >

or

< We could just play Starcraft................... errrr Allegience and think this is a pretty fitting welcome back for a returning player >

MrChaos <--- thinks this belongs in the definition post not this one but well he's just to damn lazy to find it again and this kind of works anyway /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

nothing says welcome back like your banned /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

but yeah

systems fine...
could we have an asgs message that looks at when you last signed in, and if it was over a year?? ago then says something like
QUOTE welcome back

asgs has detected that you are a returning player,

since you created your account a long time ago your account is not ranked as a new accoune, even if you cant remember anything, your rank cannot be reset.

as such you cannot play on the newbie servers, if you do you will automatically be banned by the server for 24 hours

have fun /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />[/quote]

i thought of putting the welcome back as a p.s. , but then decided to put it at the start for a more friendly feel
