And it *really* pisses him off when people purposefully whore on new players because it discourages them from playing any longer.

Ask Ryjamsan what *his* last ban was, timewise. :P

QUOTE Even if there's a lot of newbies on and almost no vets, they still seem to prefer to play on main than on the newbie server. It's especially noticeable on Sunday when everyone runs off to their SGs and main becomes a 10v10 composed almost entirely of newbs. I think most people prefer to just dive in and figure it out themselves on a server with fifty other people.[/quote]

I agree with Jimen when I was a 0 i hopped right onto the main server and personally it was a blast because the vets were pretty cool and helped me out alot. I mean i think us noobs will learn alot more from the main.

For me personally I never played on newbie server when I first started but always on main.

Given "late night" has been so empty for quite some time now, we do have quite a few newbies come on amongst the few voobs and vets. Have been showing some things to them, mainly in DM's but I can also say many newbies still find it "not fun" when they can't pod a voob or vet and prefer to have a go at other newbies instead. They learn bad habits that way on newbie server but they find it "fun".

One newbie just yesterday I was teaching DM moves to has really improved since but obviously I can still pod him and basically it made it "not fun" for him.. others relish the opportunity and want to keep trying. Basically, newbie server should still be there as an option, the problem we face is certain timezones are worse than others (like right now no-one is on) and therefore when there is no active game people go do something else.

Ah. The main game is of course the best place to learn proper tactics. This is a call to arms for those of us who wants to try out commanding and / or try out that cool move you have been thinking of but will give you a bucket full of criticism if you do it in a “real” game.

How large is the probability for me to command a real game? Very small! I have no rep and should not do it until I have some skills for that. How shall I acquire that skill?

The obvious answer is the newbie server! Here you can try out commanding and here you can freely try out all those different tactics you are thinking of but are avoiding, since this is not the way “we” do it in Allegiance. Wanna try out a Armada move? Wanna try out to organize in miner O, miner D and what not? Wanna try that cool opening move where almost all jump in to a basic fighter and rush the enemy? The newbie server is the answer!

I love scouting and the occasional fighter / interceptor dogfight. But I want to try out the whole spectrum, and that done in a way that does not destroy the game for more experienced players.

I have been tutored by very helpful players. 99 times out of 100 we end up being 3-5 players and it is all against all in DM. That has its place for basic skills in dogfighting but is such a small part of the game. Can also become rather dull and boring…

Catch 22. Cant command until I got the skills and since I don’t have the skills I wont be allowed to command, lead the taskforce for OP hunt and so on…

The newbie server wants your sorry ass if you are level 4 or lower (should be corrected?) and that in order to be better at the game. And have fun god damn it!

When can you be available for the server? The server is there for you!

The newbie server is being used. Just yesterday there was a proper game there that grew to a 4 vs. 5, and looked quite nice.

The problem used to be the very silly bump to rank 5 soon after people started playing. Now that this problem is no more, and us @HELP can pitch in when needed, the newbie servers are becoming more popular and more useful.

Keep at it and have fun new pilots :iluv:

Ooh, no more artificial rank inflation? I either missed the news (my bad) or it wasn’t publicized well enough. So now everyone has their real rank displayed and 5s are really 5s? I think that’s important news as the biggest problems and hardest times I had with Alleg were due precisely to the mismatch in expectations the rank bumping created … glad to hear it has been fixed :)
