Discriminating against the newbs
Hang in there, SirGraham. It can be like that at times, especially later on at night. But I assure you that there are commanders who actually work against what is known as "stacking".This game is not without its frustrations. I just want to tell you not to lose interest over this. Alleg is one terrific achievement, as you probably have begun to suspect. Don't let the petty stuff get in the way of your enjoyment. Remember that this is a pretty homogenous community. There are idiots everywhere in the world, including in Alleg, but there are some fine fellows
as well. And welcome to the party!
Next time you launch ASGS, before you log-in go to 'Allegiance' (right next to 'Tools') and check "Log chat to disk". This will save chat logs to wherever you installed Allegiance on your hard drive.
Next time commanders actively refuse to accept players please post the chat log.
correction, contact BlackViper via a pm with the game ID.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
Complaining on the chat about it is one way to bring it to people's attentionSirGraham wrote:QUOTE (SirGraham @ Feb 23 2010, 11:32 PM) Sooo, I've been on multiple times the past few nights to see one game going, but both commanders actively refusing to accept lower ranked players on to their teams. It seems rather counter productive to discriminate against the new blood that will ultimately keep this game alive...
Also if you see anyone with an @Help or @Alleg tag you can mention it to them.
People with + in front of their name will also help you out.
Also if you can remember the peoples names and post them that is a good way to ensure they are taught a stiff lesson
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
What the others said.
One problem is that sometimes 1 team will be down in skilled players, so accepting a relatively unskilled player will be counter-productive to their team.
Often this team also has fewer players flying - so you can only attempt to join the "stacked against" team, who will not accept you.
It's frustrating, but the only thing you can do is wait for a spot on the more skilled team (higher ranks score next to team name). If the more skilled team do not accept you they are guilty of deliberately creating an unbalanced game, and as the others said you should feel free to name and shame them with chat logs as supporting evidence.
This is a consequence of 2 things
1) We are a relatively small community, so we tend to only have 1 game going most of the time. We are looking for new players, and pushing for new players but these things take time....
2) Allegiance is a Team Game. The quality of the teams greatly effect their ability to fight. It's important to have balanced teams as Stacked Games Suck greatly for the losing team.

I've never seen that in almost a year playing, most times what happens is this:SirGraham wrote:QUOTE (SirGraham @ Feb 24 2010, 05:32 AM) Sooo, I've been on multiple times the past few nights to see one game going, but both commanders actively refusing to accept lower ranked players on to their teams. ya I got a dose of that too, but in my case the teams really were quite imbalanced, although unfortunately they stayed that way for a long time. I understand that a stacked game sucks, but even showing preference for other players adds a "pardon me may I trouble you by inflicting my playing of this game upon you" kind of vibe. Too bad there aren't more games to choose from at my time period, that would solve the problem.
I'm sure it's been thought of before but maybe some sort of in-game $$$ or other reward for accepting lower ranking players under tightly controlled circumstances like if your team is significantly under-ranked, as a game option that can be en/disabled pregame?

Methinks i know a strategy where this might be overwhelmingly effective...magilla guerrilla wrote:QUOTE (magilla guerrilla @ Feb 24 2010, 08:02 PM) I'm sure it's been thought of before but maybe some sort of in-game $$$ or other reward for accepting lower ranking players under tightly controlled circumstances like if your team is significantly under-ranked, as a game option that can be en/disabled pregame?
