I just thought of another idea to attract new players, and it won't require much work, either (well, less than the current ideas). Make a Let's Play!

The Something Awful forums are pretty much the hugest forums on the internet that aren't made of concentrated evil, putting a Let's Play there is a great way to draw attention to an obscure game (or bring ridicule upon a bad game, but this is Allegiance, not Sonic '06). Essentially, get some people together (preferably at least one commander and a few pilots, all on the same team), and have them take screenshots of a game as they play (I'd recommend focusing on the commander's POV to emphasize the tactical/teamwork aspect by showing the whole bomber run rather than just one ship's view of it, but integrate the pilots' screenies to show off the dogfighting and stuff). Then type up running commentary to go with the screenshots (along with explanations of what stuff is/does). The only real guideline is that it should be funny. Chatting with Spidey before my first game yesterday, he compared commanding to "Starcraft where all your units hate you." That'd be a good line to use (or at least modify and use). After the LP is complete, if it was good, it'll get uploaded to the LP Archive, which everyone can access.

Alternately, if screenshots would interfere too much with gameplay, make a video Let's Play. Just record the game as you play (this time, you should definitely have the commander do this, unless you want to splice the pilot footage in, or make two concurrently-running VLPs), and comment via microphone recording (I'd avoid directly recording the Teamspeak, though, LP viewers want topical, focused commentary about the gameplay or silly tangents about nothing in particular). Be sure to break the videos up into roughly ten-minute segments so it can fit on Youtube (you then include a link in the LP thread you put on the SA forums). If you do decide to combine commander and pilot footage, maybe set up a private voicechat conference between all the involved players, so that you can get some endearing bickering going.

The most important things for any LP are: Be funny, be sure to keep viewers abreast of what's happening, and WIN. The only time losing makes for a good LP is when it's Dwarf Fortress.

Just a suggestion, but Let's Plays are quite popular, and have made memorable many games that would otherwise be forgotten, like Medieval Total War II (one of the very, very few non-comedy LPs that was successful) or Golgo 13. Forgive me if there's anything preventing you from doing this, as I know not what you can/can not do with Allegiance yet.

The quote is from an old-ish article on The Escapist, that says,QUOTE "The relationships between the commander and the players on his team make the game very different than any other game out there." says TigerEye. Indeed, commanding a game of Allegiance has been compared to playing StarCraft, the main difference being that your units all hate you.[/quote]I have no idea who actually said it originally, though, whether it was Tigereye (TigerEye  ) or someone else.

My, I was going to use DF as an example.

There's one DF tutorial video in which the lesson is interrupted by a goblin siege. A dwarven caravan is caught between the fortress and the goblin pack, so you are really expecting them to die. Suddenly, one of the dwarves starts macing left and right, connects a hit and throws a goblin all the way over a moat, smashing it into pieces against the walls. Then it starts chasing the whole goblin pack while it flees. It's so cracking you don't care about the graphics.

Maybe it would be nice to reenact the most famous hilarious Allegiance situations and do something like the 100 ways to die in Halo video.

"End of weird ideas, ducks for flying objects" <-- SG DUCK MOD! Or you can have one side with Batwings the other being the ducks. IT will be like MS v *Nix. TAKE THAT MR PENGUIN!

I never heard of TVTropes, I'll check that site out!

host for the tutorials, or mascot for the WIKI. Cute, lovable, and hilarious in context.

I think I suggested a message about prime time as the first news message, or as something in the installer or both. Still a good idea.

And a "Let's Play Allegiance" would be great. One would just have to have screen caps to go with it... good ones. Also a good funny writer. Clay Pidgeon would probably be perfect with his sarcastic but very sympathetic style :iluv:
