juckto is keeping a record of such threads at the bottom of his wiki page. :P

But, you know, sure, Alleg may not be about to die or anything, and sure, people have been predicting its demise for years, and the sky has yet to fall. But on the other hand, numbers are numbers. Just a year or two ago there were what, 800 actives on the leaderboard? It obviously is going down gradually, but very noticeably. And obviously this is not a good thing, because it is a feedback loop, where fewer players = more people getting discouraged and leaving. And because there are fewer games being played. And because, well, the trend may stop at some point, or it may continue until there's a few dozen players left (though presumably, this'd be years from now unless something goes terribly wrong).

I don't know why people are leaving though. I guess maybe it's because Allegiance is starting to look more and more dated. I agree that a bit of an improvement in graphics, while it might seem shallow and unimportant, could really draw people back in.

Also I guess it might just be people getting bored. I think everyone who plays Allegiance for a long time needs a break eventually, not playing for a few weeks or even months. Some, I suppose, just never come back, getting distracted by other, newer games, or by good old-fashioned real life.

All I can really say is that I really hope if Allegiance ever does die out -- hopefully it won't come close for many years yet -- someone, perhaps some of the people from this very community, will go on to create a new game inspired by it, recapturing everything that made Alleg so unique.

Pretty depressing... It will be a great tragedy when Allegiance dies; 10 years old and still better than 95% of games being released today.

Atleast we will hopefully get the influx of people we did around january next year.

I haven't played much in the past year. Most of that was Nvidia problems (the dx9 alpha worked, but barely) and other technical issues. Some of it was other games scratching the same itch (FS2 for space sims, TF2 and L4D for solid cooperative & team play.

But, since R5 is out and works great for me, I think I'll go celebrate right now by trying to remember which end of an int I'm supposed to shoot out of. :P

I think a mass PM post to all community members might give Alleg a bit of a boost.

Hey i said easy to use, not easy to get kills with!

It's like Battlefield Vietnam, all the noobs use the F-4 Phantom because it had heat seeking missiles, the good pilots used the MiG-17 because even though it only had guns, it could outmaneuver the missiles and could take out the rest of the planes in the sky (and pretty much everything on the ground) in the hands of a skilled pilot.

Snuffie I was surprised by the fact you haven't been here longer

The marketing peeps are working to get the word out.

A small group of people, using his awesomesauceness Fwiffo's efforts to date of grabbing snaps of the leaderboard was able to gather some trend of things about these parts since May this year.

We'll be sharing the details with both marketing and the those wearing the tinfoil hats of powah.

In a nutshell we suck at retaining people who try out the game. No surprises I hope for anyone with more then a few months of seniority.
