Whats up guys,
I'm new here so I thought I'd drop a post. I just started reading the manual but i haven't had the time to actually play the game. The manual keep saying to finish reading or join the Cadet I program. Regarding that, I think I understand the concept of the game and it seems to me like the Cadet I program is needed only if I've never played this sort of games. So, I've played games like Freelancer and Natural Selection and from what I understand this game is like the combination of that. Should I keep reading and try the in-game tutorial or is the Cadet I program an absolute must in order to eventually master the game?
-Thanks.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Hello, and welcome to the game, I'll try to answer some of your questions here.
1) Freelancer and NS have some similarities, but Allegiance is far different in many aspects, so go through CDT
2) Keep reading, even veterans have to keep up or retrain at times
3) Take CDT
4) Did I mention CDT?
5) CDT-II
P.S. quoting someone else here, Allegiance is like playing Starcraft where every unit is drunk and angry

I would say the minimum you need to read is the cadet I reading material found on the Wiki. Also the training missions in the game. Joining the CDT program is highly recommended but not a requirement.
Also this post should be with the other newbie welcome posts where it will be moved too shortly.

Yeah, it will get merged in with that thread (see sticky) once he knows it will happen. I don't want a new guy to think that we deleted his thread for kicks

The Cadet I program is basically a separate forum where you can ask questions about the game, and read the materials found in the Wiki with other cadets, so you can all share knowledge and questions with instructors. Cadet II, which you can apply for after completing Cadet I, includes more advanced materials that are not found on the Wiki, but all the actual material in Cadet I is available to you anyway. Just not instructors to answer questions and other Cadets to go through it with.
As you read the stuff in the Wiki, don't wait too long to jump into the game, i.m.h.o. That is, skim the Cadet materials to get the hang of the basics, then start the game and do the training missions, which will acquaint you with the basic controls, and then jump right into the game. When you discover something you don't know how to do, or want to know more about, then go back to the Wiki. There will also be people in the game you can ask questions (@Help tags and other helpful individuals), though they'll expect that you at least finished the training missions, and they might not have enough time to answer a lot of questions in a lot of detail (so, again, Wiki!)
Welcome aboard.
