IMO Edmond wrote:QUOTE (Edmond @ Aug 31 2010, 04:20 PM) I think girly's idea is much better, since it is more freeform, only needs to be updated by one person, and maintains the openness of the command channel without the spaminess. Plus it can have ASCII goatse.
Nuke was the only person who actually bothered to correct him, though, and since sarcasm meters don't work over the internet, I can forgive him for not realizing it straight away since Spidey and PK both spent most of the chatlog sarcastically agreeing with Bass, which is the reason I was so confused about it before. Why? Because if you don't already know that Bass is wrong, the chatlog would tend to suggest that he was correct - you just see one person telling Bass he's wrong, one person telling Bass he's right, and one person pretending he doesn't know the answer and is just learning it from Bass. The thread's full of people laughing at how wrong Bass was, while the chatlog seemed to suggest that he was correct.phoenix1 wrote:QUOTE (phoenix1 @ Oct 7 2009, 11:28 AM) Ok, look, here's why people are laughing at him.
Imagine you just got here, and you're like, "How come I can't mount minigun on my fighters?" Someone chuckles and corrects you, saying that miniguns are for interceptors not fighters. Now you start calling them a retard, saying that "no, in fact, miniguns go on fighters." At this point they're just going to make fun of you because a) you're wrong and b) you're being obstinate about it. It's not that this is "basic" information, it's more that it's information that's readily available, and that they tried to give to him, but he refused to have it.
Imagine if some cadet was reading in the cadet forums, and then posted a big, long post to the effect of "Actually, Scouts have terrible range, and you should never probe!" And then continued arguing his point.

That little excerpt kinda sums up the whole thing. One of the reasons vets aren't allowed in newbie servers at all (except for @Help and @Alleg) is because they were so fond of giving out false info to newbies, and this is the first time I've actually believed that since it seemed so stupid. Even after Bass shut up, Spidey and PK kept talking as if his version were true all they way to the end of the posted chatlog, and Spidey's sarcasm doesn't carry at all in the text unless you already know for a fact that Bass is wrong. If I couldn't make sense of the chatlog at first even after reading three pages of people laughing at Bass, then I think Bass can be forgiven for being led astray? I understand what you're say, but it doesn't bear much relevance to what happened here.

As far as I can tell you are too new to know what you are talking about.
Vets almost never give newbies false information.
The reason vets are not allowed on newbie servers has nothing to do with vets giving newbies false information - but rather vets whoring newbies and making them leave. However I am happy we have you here, in our community, telling us the rules for things. I eagerly await you explaining all the reasons for the other rules we have based on your extensive experince. Oh wait you have no $#@!ing clue what you are talking about.
If you don't get my sarcasm perhaps you should play for more than a month and listen instead of talking.
You remind me of the people so eager to jump in with their own opinion that you forget maybe the chatlog that was posted was the best part but maybe there was more BEFORE HAND. What a $#@!ing shock to think this is not the entirety of the conversation. I know it would have taken you 10 seconds to think of that - but you would rather whine about the snippet that was posted.
You remind me of oderus/sindertone/shautsky talking about how it was 2 minutes between when i asked if they were ready and when sysx left - even when logs posted showing it was like 16 minutes or whatever because they looked at the 5 lines they posted and not the full logs

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
For the record, there has been not one report of any posts in this thread nor, to the best of my knowledge, has anyone complained to BV about the behaviour in game. TE's rule has been "Mock the action, not the person" and whilst I don't think this community follows that 100% of the time I think that it was happening here.Shautsky wrote:QUOTE (Shautsky @ Oct 7 2009, 07:35 AM) Smells a lot like being ridiculed for lack of knowledge of a computer video game. Of course riducle isn't a personal attack, this is the internet and a computer game and all is allowed until the epeens get ridiculed themselves.
Roar, fear my epeen of a computer game knowledge or I shall mock you. RRoar! The super kidz cool club is not for you!
Ridiculing for poor pilot performance is not a personal attack either! Go go epeens!.
at internet accepted behavior.
If DSM get dragged into this it's because a number of their members need to seriously wind their necks in on the forums and that does nothing but make them a target. If your squad is a target and you do something foolish it's likely that you'll get twice the mockery. If you want that to stop then all of DSM needs to think about their posting habits.

I enjoy this, personally. Have not heard a word of complaint from the guys, so I have not said a thing.Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Oct 7 2009, 01:41 PM) If you want that to stop then all of DSM needs to think about their posting habits.
Correction: The only thing I have heard from the guys is, "Haha man, this @#(! is hilarious."
