we should have the game at its best possible state. as to what its best possible state is, i havent the foggiest as i have no clue what these new ubdates are gonna have.

also with the release of windows 7 and some people using vista, allegiance will need to be fully compatible with the new windows (which i know is being worked on)

so like i said when ya want me to work it out drop me a line and i can sort it out until then use smaller sites.

heavenly

II'm reliably informed R5 is out in Two Weeks or so (no really 2 weeks).

We have a version of ASGS thatworks with Win7. Just needs to go on AU AFAIAA.

You don't want to attract everyone who games, you want to attract the type of gamer that "gets" Allegiance, that is willing to accept a challenge, and is willing to accept a learning curve. If you attract the wrong type (in too many numbers) the games have the potential to suck for everyone - including the "right kind of newbie" who snuck in with the great unwashed.

But yeah, we need to get our house in order, too. Address the problems that make the game difficult to install and launch. This way the marketing effort won't have been in vain.
Maybe we should talk about what type of gamer we should target? In my opinion we want the gamer who is looking for a game that is so incredibly deep its like an ocean. Perhaps the Eve forums, HOI3, Sins, etc forums are the place to start? Freelancer, X3 are also probably good places to go as well.

Let's not crank the elitism up too high concerning the "type of gamer" that's right for us. Sure, Alleg has a learning curve, but don't exaggerate it; hardcore WoW players should be able to handle Alleg just fine (aside from having to tear themselves away from WoW somehow). The hard part isn't really the difficulty of the game, it's getting people to work as teams. Recruiting from any big teamplay-heavy game, like the endgames of many MMOs, should yield a respectable crew of new players who don't just get shot down while trying to whore all game.

Pico just mentioned in a @BS nostalgia thread, that at times there were 1000+ players at a time on Allegiance. I am guessing this would have been on MS servers, but what would our infrastructure implications be for that kind of player activity? How many players could Planet, Solap, and GPZ handle at a time?
From a strictly band width stand point we are using about 5% of Solap monthly allotment

:iluv: youse all!

(Miss me no more :) Back and stayin that way)

On topic - Some of the recent comments highlight a salient point - its one thing to market, and to market to a target audience. But "what are we marketing Alleg as?" bears some thought. The traditional marketing line? The "its a pew pew space thingy" line? The detailed story/background line? All of the above? Looking at how recent games have been successfully marketed (eg: ODST) might be worth doing as well.

I'd push the tournament and show some fraps from high-level squad play. There is no other game that has teamwork taken to such an extreme level, and the game isn't different for the vets as from the newbies. The newest 0 has the same stats as Weedman, because what you have is what your team has. The stuff that some of the vets pull off is entirely possible for anyone to do, all you need to do is learn how and practice.

The 'endgame', Squad Play, is bloody amazing. Pick up games will kill your sanity if you're comming, but they can still be a lot of fun.

Allegiance may be the best team based game in the world.. because that's what it is.

Also, that podcast was a terrific idea and needs to be continued.. what happened to it?

I ran into a lack of time Kofi, sorry. It will continue and has the opp to expand into some nice areas as well. What I'd LOVE to do is have a podcast that shows the basics and then intermediates. It can be pushed in less than 5 min videos to a separate feed (so alleg sports can continue in its current incarnation).

I think that is how I will start, BEFORE I push alleg anyway, I want this project done.

I don't have much time for making thos evideos right now, but I can request that a specific set of videos be done and emailed/made available to me so I can pick from them (or have them voted on) and then used as training videos.

I would also love a subfeed of Alleg Sports that does things like Jukto's "you suck at allegiance" but in actual allegiance gameplay format. Just podcasted for ease of consumption.

I don't know if you are aware, but Squirg was doing recordings of You Suck at allegiance using in Game footage to post on youtube...

I haven't had a good look for a while, but maybes you can link that?
