I'm curious as to how many people are still playing that played in beta.
I played in open beta, though I wasn't around during closed beta, which I know at least a few of you were. After the game went live, it took me a good 3 months before I bought it. At the time, I was like, what, 13? So $10 a month was a lot for me to play a game... I finally caved, though, heh heh. Saw it on the store shelf and I was like "Oooooh man..." and the rest is history =)
This game still holds the title of "game that most awed me" when I first played it. I remember, after only like 20 minutes of playing, I was thinking "Holy crap, this is the coolest thing ever..." and then subsequently tying up the phone lines for far too long (28.8 modem, lol!), driving my parents insane.
How many of you have been here since beta?
open beta.
i remember when it went to AZ, I couldnt wait to buy a subscription. Got home, and realized that no-one knew what the hell they were doing. It was glorious pwnage over and over... then they started learning how to play...
i stopped playing when i moved, gave up my subscription. When i discovered FAZ, I was stoked. Started back in, and realized that I now sucked hardcore.

Open Beta forced my parents to install a 2nd phone line. Purchased the retail a week or two after it came out. Played a lot, but never got into the forum-scene and as I said above, my parents were already paying $15 a month for me to play, so convincing them to pay another 10 never really worked. A couple years after realease a lightning strike forced us to replace about half the components in our computer, and the new on board graphics just didn't like alleg. So I took a year and a half hiatus until I went to college and got a new box.

Closed beta.
And on a side-note, over the weekend I was cleaning up boxes of old junk I had stored in the basement when I came across my Beta 1 CD!!!! I thought I threw it away long ago, but it turns out I stored it. Sweet!
I was always under the impression I was in the 2nd beta though. Maybe the first one was Beta 0?

Been here since beta, but not playing. I was following the development of Allegiance on a german portal (www.talkhouse.de) where they talked about the beta alot and made me want to play. I was in england at that time and only had access to a computer in the library... I finally joined the game in June/July 2000. I never paid for AZ though, there was no real reason for it.
I joined during the open beta and played untill it got too hostile (and frankly, wasn't fun any more). It was very nice to rediscover this game a few years back. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
Open beta was what convinced my parents that flatrate ISDN was better than pay-per-byte ISDN...
I also remember working hard to have enough money to buy a new graphics card so I could see all the eyecandy... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Last closed BETA session. "Black_Viper_4"
Like TE, I cleaned up some files on a harddrive, where I found the email where "Das Paragon" merged with Black Shadow and gave me instructions on how to access the old BS website. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> That was November of '99
