Even if you take the price of the research away from their starting money, and maybe leave the lite booster unresearched? Somehow I just don't see it.
I like flying patties, but I don't think they are particularily powerful. I just like the fact that I can probe and prox with them and it has somewhat more fighting power than a scout. A powerhouse it isn't though, IMO.

Yes but it takes 2 mins to get those patties, I mean what your saying is if we took away IC Lt Ints but made them researchable in 2mins for 5k but give them 5k more starting money then it's all fair.
I think we should try and stick to each faction's philosophy and unique style.
Giga is the cheapskate faction, cutting corners with weaker hull on bases and ships, the fact giga managment doesn't give you any other starting ships is just another example of that.
Now, with the keep faction diversity message done... I never had any problem with how giga starts. Patties are a tactical decision, I would quite often not bother getting them, especially if I was getting a tech up quickly. I don't see the problem with giving the comms the choice to get patties, or spend the 5k on something else.

Ok, that is a fair point. Still I think giving giga patties & lite boost at start would make the faction competitive in a SG.

it's not realistic to talk about competitive gigacorp until light bases stop existing. maybe we could get instead of ops teleops or transceivers (undock/rip/ref) and make them regular while not taking away their teleports. maybe a way to make ops a bit more worthy would be making them a low yield specmine, keeping with the profit drive idea of the faction. i understand leaving light ops is a pretty big change but it will not be possible to balance giga, at least for SGs until that's done.
Making giga lt bases harder to destroy would be a near-overpowering perk to giga, who can already build bases for a pittance.
Giving giga starting patties with lt boost saves giga $7500, and almost ensures that giga would get tech up faster than its opponents, or churn out lt/std carriers. This plays right into giga's strengths, and would also be a huge perk for giga.
The only thing that could possibly be fixed with giga is small tweaks on exp (hvy int gunmounts not sucking).

Well.. if you want to fix giga ints, why not make a lxy have 12 fuel rather than 10? That way, they're only short one rack of fuel rather than two, and give them a few other perks, such as making them faster and/or allowing them to mount hvy booster?
I mean, Giga has speed and unique perks for lxys. IC already has extra ammo/fuel, and rix has four miniguns. (Yes, I know it just feels like four miniguns). If lxy ints need a perk, give them something unique, like shields or something.

Like ripcord ability?
For the record, lxy int fuel is fixed in CC05 release which is out now.
