What is Cadet?
Cadet I is a training course for complete beginners. It aims to provide a single source covering: Installation, community, game basics, "game manual", how a game is played/won, and starting roles. It concentrates on the use of the scout. It can be accessed here.

Cadet II is a training course for beginner/intermediate players. It expands on the material covered in Cadet I and introduces how to use more advanced ships, such as the interceptor, bomber, troop transport, etc. As a general rule, completion of Cadet I is required.

What happens in the Cadet course?
The training program has a number of lessons which you read yourself, and a private forum that you can ask Cadet instructors any "silly" questions you have.

How do I join?
Sign up details can be found on this page.

How often do Cadet courses run?
Cadet I starts a new session every four weeks or so. Cadet II is a little more irregular.
ogorass wrote:QUOTE (ogorass @ Dec 2 2009, 12:52 AM) As mentioned in this news item from the main page, the current incarnation of CDT-I, called AFS (Allegiance Flight School), doesn't have a set start date - it's continous. That means, that you can join at any time - just follow the application instructions.
See you there!

How much time does it take?
Both courses are self-study. The material is there for you to absorb, and then ask the instructors for anything else you're curious about. As such, you can be as involved or removed as you like. In saying that, the Cadet I spreads the information over 3 weeks, while Cadey II covers 5 weeks.

I signed up for a Cadet course, when will it start?
It varies according to the volunteer admins' real life, but they try and start at the first weekend of the month. Your best bet is to keep an eye on the News forum

I signed up for a Cadet course, and it started, but my name isn't on the list. What do I do?
Wherever you found the list, add a comment explaining your problem. Don't forget to state what names you signed up with.

Oops, I didn't realise the Cadet course started. Can I sign up to it late?
Yes, up to one week. There should be a post in the News forum about the new course starting. Add a comment on that saying you'd like to sign up late, and also fill in the appropriate sign up form.

I want to send a Private Message to one of the Admins about a problem with my application, but I can't. What gives?
Our forum was targeted by malicious spammers and so the board admin disabled PM privileges for anyone who has less than 10 posts.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Teebz tells me he wants to give it to you, maybe you should ask him to drop?

Is there a limit to how many times you can take Cadet?

Pinned, and no, there isnt really a limit, but if you have taken and passed Cadet, there is no reason to take it again, because you have access to the material.

For me the best part about cadet was the discussion on the forums.

You'll learn something new every time you take cadet.
