Which Program (ASGS/Allegiance):Allegiance
What Error Message:Failed to Connect to Server
Comments (What you tried, description, etc):
Tried to connect to several different games, on several occasions. Checked .Net install, checked compatibility mode (tried XP and Windows 2003 modes). Read through other similar posts and checked router and modem for any possible related entries, double checked firewall. Ran update/repair critical files in ASGS with no luck.
Failed To Connect to Server
Uhm i'm not too sure as I don't use it myself but did you download the Avast version with bundled in firewall? That version has a problem with allegiance and if it is that's the problem, you have to uninstall in and reboot but I think you can download the Avast version without the bundled in firewall and that will work fine (or use Avira antivirus which works well apparently). If that's not the problem then check your router and make sure ports 2300-2400 are not being blocked because those are the MS Gaming Ports which Allegiance uses.

The web site didn't mention a firewall, but in another post the Network Shield was indicated as a firewall, so I disabled that to no effect.
Tried the uninstall and reboot, no luck so far. Tried both HTTP and DirectPLay options in ASGS menu.FreeBeer wrote:QUOTE (FreeBeer @ Apr 6 2009, 10:39 PM) Disabling it doesn't disable it. (If I had a dime for every time I've had to type that...)
REBOOT! Check to see if it is still off and give it a try. Or just uninstall it, REBOOT, then try Alleg.
At one point I misclicked the start a new game button (I think) instead of the join game button - a game options selection screen came up that I hadn't seen before, anyway. I thought I had something there, then I got booted from that with the message (something like) pings not being returned. Hope there is a clue there someplace.
Getting frustrated with this, though I know it is all on my side. I really want to paint my bumper yellow, put on my T-shirt with the target on the back and crash headlong into some asteroids.

Have you tried looking at your router configuration? That may beblocking the portsa Alleg uses
Instructions to enter web interface for your router are here.
As sharp said, you need to ensure that ports 2300-2400 are not being blocked because those are the MS Gaming Ports which Allegiance uses.
I've added the info on the router to allow Allegiance access on the ports mentioned, but no changes. May not have doen that right. Hooked directly to the DSL modem to be sure that firewall was not blocking, but it is not activated. I'll probably try resetting the router tonight and checking the port setup again. Any other way to test if the ports are open? Another link that would need those ports to work?notjarvis wrote:QUOTE (notjarvis @ Apr 9 2009, 08:26 AM) Have you tried looking at your router configuration? Thanks.
I added the Allegiance/MS Zone port entries to my router under the Special AP list, and then when I got to the lobby I was able to get to the game server, to a waiting Newbie game. Thought I had it made, then exited and retried and again got no server. Also at times I was locked out of the lobby connection. Feels like I am going backwards here.
Probably try another uninstall/reinstall tonight and see where that gets me.
Set the ports up as [From the FreeAllegiance Wiki]:
Outgoing on 2300-2400 (TCP and UDP)
Incoming on 47624 (TCP and UDP) - not sure if this was needed, but not sure if I could leave it blank.
