User mods
This discussion has already come to the Senate... linky for ducky.
We have the ability to lock files so people cannot mod them. Yes, ASGS has a feature that would allow multiple file signatures to play (Meaning there can be more than one version of a file that is allowed). The hard part is finding a way to approve files for community use (In a quick amount of time). Some of the files that are more prone to game exploits have been locked however.

I don't use any mods. I hit people with normal mdl gat3 fine. Making models white? Heh, I guess it's helpful if you're blind and can't distinguish dark colors, but I see dreg ships and stuff fine. And I don't use bi-directional lighting, trails, and all that "pretty visual" crap either. I just have "stars" on, settings wise.
Do whatever you want as long as you don't let the computer aim for you.

yay, my mods are popular /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
but, freely available mods are hardly an advantage or a cheat, everyone can use them, so everyone can have whatever advantage they provide
when i get round to finishing my game settings mod, it has to go to the senate because it is now a protected file
white ships, thats just crazy
i had thought of having a research for my faction called "black paint" that changes your ships skin to dark, nearly black colours (which would then have to be protected files)
i decided it wasnt really in the style of this faction, but an interesting concept for some other factions

I use "The Man" reticle, the gat 2/3 mod, and I modded all int minigun sprites to appear like TF ones. (Thanks MadP). I think mods are fine so long as they don't widely disrupt or effect gameplay. All the mods are available to everyone so everybody is at the same advantage/disadvantage.

Also keep in mind that the high res texture project is going to be optional for the forseeable future and will add a lot to the amount of potentially modded files on a person's system.

It will use a separate folder. You can protect these files if needed with ASGS, too.Adaven wrote:QUOTE (Adaven @ Oct 1 2006, 05:28 AM) Also keep in mind that the high res texture project is going to be optional for the forseeable future and will add a lot to the amount of potentially modded files on a person's system.
The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

I've read that someone has all enemy ships appear white to them, someone else has made gat 2 and 3 bullets 1/4 of their original size so they can still see the target whilst firing. God knows what other crap people are pulling to give themselves an unfair advantage. Can't we make everyone play the same Allegiance? or are we just saying, if you can't compete on equal terms, and if you're savvy enough, whatever you can do to improve your chances of winning is OK?
