Porting allegiance to the XBOX 360

So, has anyone looked into this? This would be an awesome "Arcade" title
and as the sourcecode has been released by MS, it would be possible to convert this fairly easy for a skilled programmer (right? ). This would probably up the playerbase ALOT.
Im personally looking into porting a simpler game for the Arcade, but it will take more than 1 year as of now (proably need to rewrite the game).


Anyone experienced with XNA thinking of doing this for allegiance?
It would be gr8 to have on XBL!!!! Fits like a glove =)

You may find my statement cynical, but think of it...

If anyone can port Alleg MS PC game to XBOX, he can make big $$$ in a topjob so he wouldn't have time to do it for "free".

Youre probably right, but the whole point with Arcade is that you can make money on it!

And this should be in comparison with rewriting a game, fairly easy. Allegiance IS a DX game, and the X-box is dx.... Well you wont do this in a coffee break, but i think u get my point /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />


Sure, u wont get full price for a game there, but say like 10 usd and then no monthly fee.

This would be great. =)

Not possible. The source license expressly prevents this. Also, all our devs are employed full time and won't have time for such a big project.

yeah, and juuuust as u finish it (5 yrs later), MS will unwittingly launch alleg2 and squash the whole thing. lol.

freeallegiance is released under a licence that says we cant make any money on it. if we try, ms will take that money, and a whole load more... /doh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doh:" border="0" alt="doh.gif" />

actually, alleg 2 could help us

if there is a whole load of market hype for alleg 2, people may say, why is it 2 and find us.

of course, alleg 2 would have to be different to alleg one

and they will have a tough job making anythnig better than alleg one

5 years to port it..nah i doubt that. That sucks with the license....But if approached correctly, im pretty sure MS is interested in this for the arcade and wont mind a little buck to be made as they wont have to shell out much cash then.

Or someone just has to make another very similiar game from scratch then /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

It took our developers more than 2 years to get a basic version of allegiance to even compile under their own tools (not porting involved). Unfortunately, it's just a really big project, and our developers volunteer their efforts. I don't think an XBox port is realistic. A much more realistic goal would be to upgrade the graphics engine to take advantage of modern hardware, and even that would be a tremendously huge project with potentially undesirable consequences (such as stiffer hardware requirements).

Actually, it is more possible now that it has ever been with the advent of the XNA framework.

However, it is still a pipedream, because someone would have to port the game over to C#/.NET/XNA.
