QDY says that specrefs are useless at all times. Spidey says that they shouldn't be rushed. I have to side with spidey.

Once the map starts running out of money, and giga has a good portion of the map, and they don't have sbs or killers, then that money can be used to build specrefs, and get more tech up to overpower the enemy adv tech. Rare circumstances, but they happen every now and then.
