OK,I did everything that was suggested.Re-installed to C:\ unzipped the asgs files to the correct folder.I was able to get to the "free games" lobby and waited over 1 hour for those updated and now the game dis-appears.If I get it running I'll reply to this post, but for now I'm DOA. /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Over 3 hours later and a complete uninstall/re-install of the game, .net framework 1.1 and 2.0
I am right back to where I started, stuck in the ASGS upate loop again.

Was any of this ever tested before release? This completely sucks.

Paps - I never had any issues (other than the newfound issue when Allegiance isn't installed on your system drive - I always installed to the default location).

If you downloaded the asgs.zip here:

http://downloads.alleg.net/asgs/asgs.zip

Then unzipped the files to your Allegiance directory, overwriting the old ones, there should be no update loop. The files in that zip are the latest builds, and will not prompt for an update when launched.

Here's what I did:

a) Uninstalled.
b) Reinstalled to default install location.
c) Downloaded ASGS.zip from http://downloads.alleg.net/asgs/asgs.zip
d) Unzipped the files to the Allegiance folder, overwriting when prompted.
e) Launched ASGS, which launched Allegiance, which Autoupdated, and I was looking at the games list.

The whole process took about 5 minutes.

I did that and after getting to the Free games lobby and letting the individual files (*.mdl etc.) download ,the game crashed. It crashes everytime now. It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that my AllegianceR4 directory is still on my D: drive and I re-installed to c: , does it?
\I see others logged on so some people are getting it to function. Will this help?

Can't really tell why the game would be crashing, especially since I just re-did the install procedure above and it worked fine.

Have you tried using the "Update / Repair Critical Files" function on the ASGS help menu? it will make sure that the Allegiance client, ASGS client, and all the cores are the correct versions.

Remember also - not all the files needed to run the game are kept on AU once they've moved into the latest installer. Unless you're using installer version 1.8.6, it's not going to work. That means downloading the latest installer and running that.

(or alternatively, if you kept your old installation which it sounds like you might have, copy everything from the old install over to the new install so you have the missing files)

That did it. I copied by old folder verbatim. It did the file size 3723264 update twice, then did the small file update....then it launched and worked fine. - Thanks for staying up with me /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
