How would somthing like this work out in allegiance?
What I had in mind was a 700 or so range nannite beam with 3000 velocity and a high fire rate but a very low rate of repair (Think -50 +/-)
This would allow some flexabilty in what you plan on repairing. Standard nannites for constructor and bombers, and the nannite beam for combat and cross nanning since those targets are usually moveing unpredicably and are difficult to close distance to repair.
Under direct fire the beam can be overcome very easily, but it would still remain useful for someone only taking glancing hits or as a way to recover after a skirmish.
Nannite beam
the flexibility needs to be supplied by the scout pilot not teh gun. when a scout armed with a nan launches he/she does not know what will happen, who knows when you ahve to emergency rip to save a miner, who knwos what needs repairs in the bombrun. a good scout pilot will respond to his/her situation awareness and nan what needs to be nanned, there is no bomb run where only the bmbr needs repairs or only the nans need repairs. i belive havin to switch gun shows inflexibility on the pilots side. if a friendly is getting hit by a enemy, then it is possible to hit them with your nan gun (in the case that he is lag jumping then both sides can't hit)
the nanite beam would be suited for combat nanning without being right close up.
Since interceptors and fighters can accelerate faster than scouts with there boosters it makes it very difficult to get in range before they are killed.
I suppose you could learn to anticipate there plans ahead of time...
Or maybe pilots should realize they should run twords the nearest scout rather than the edge of the system?

it might be good to carry around if you are scouting/probing.
If a con or miner near you is under attack you can possibly buy extra seconds for the other defenders without getting so close that the attackers can quickly destroy you.
Although it wouldnt repair as fast, it could repair from further away out of range of there mini3 o.0
Additionally there have been like hundreds of times i turn out being 300m too far from saving a miner either because i just logged in, or the god damn miner keeps jumping through the aleph.
