Aye, They are quite nice turrets /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Easy to take out several figs with one turret, nice for quick DP /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Mind you, the only true laser weapons are hardly used at all, as almost noone uses nix... Thankfully /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

They don't look too good with fast rotating weapons. They look more like hoses than beams unfortunately.

Probably the only way to get past the "garden hose" effect is to use a long thin model on the order of the weapon's range. But then you run into more visibility problems as the entire column will disappear a split second after it leaves the barrel because the front end has hit your target.

What about the turbo lasers on the starwars core? Those have a shape to it.

Just use an 8 sided teardrop shape. That way you dont get the hard to see projectile or the "hose" effect.

Requires code change:

Sprites at beginning & end of laser bolt + axial sprite at center + post process glow = nice looking laser;)

How hard a code change would that be? Beam weapons are cool and it'd be a nice option for core devs /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

what happens if you add one (or more) of the lights to the model that the laser shoots.

if you get the light to turn on at time 0 (after spawning) it should stay on for the time the particle is alive (as the lifetime of the laser is very short).

that should add some glow, may need a few of them on the model

I'll give it a shot.

I wasn't talking about a model.. a model could work, but it might/would look a little funky & out of place.. and wouldn't you have to fire your lasers from your 'missile tube'?

no, regular guns can shoot models instead of sprites from the same joints. It is an option in ICE and is what Phoenix lasers do (longtoms used to do as well).

<edit> The strobes on the models do show up, I'm going to add some to the laser model and see what happens.
