In some random small game a few days ago I was up against 5 newbies /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Anyways, they start flying to the planted op con I pushed to a neighboring sector with rix bombers.

He flys up to the OP, starts to shoot it with its anti base PW, then fires an ALEPH RESONATOR AT THE BASE. ROFLMFAO.

3 seconds later... "How do you kill a base?????"

"...not with a resonator, use the bullets."

Thinking the base was dead, and that I should stay docked to deal with other matters I decided to not defend it (There were 2 gunships in the sector too)
Was kinda funny watching the fat resonator missile fly out of the bomber and hit my base doing absolutly nothing....

Got any funny newbie stories you would like to share? /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Also, if you weren't a newbie you'd be banned for doing this. Keep that in mind.

newbie bashing should be kept to those who aren't newbies (and then they shouldn't really do it)

Besides, I prefer the term rookie.

lol
Just a rookie trying not to make a fool of himself ;-)

Being a newbie myself, and still learning the game, I'd like to offer this little suggestion: Help the newbies by giving them advise. Encourage them to join the cadet program (I'm always doing that when I see newbies in the main games) and educate them.

Rix is a great faction, once you get to know the way their ships work. But if you don’t know what weapons do what, you’re going to make goofs like that.

The one thing I really like about this game is that most (not all) of the vets and long term players help the newbies with advice and suggestions. It's encouraging to me simply because the last game I played online before coming here didn't do that. They just kept going after the newbies to wipe them out for no reason. And when I would take the time to help the newbies they'd attack me for it. Finally after 3 major wars because of it I called them all as@$%# and left the game.

It only took me one week of playing here before I decided that this was where I wanted to be. The attitude is so much better, more helpful and friendly here that it's really great! I've even had vets apologize to me for podding me so much in a game we just got done playing. The first time that happened I couldn't believe it!

Now I go back to that other game and tell the newbies to leave and come here. I tell the long term players that when I’m done they won’t have any newbies to pick on, so they’ll have to fight each other, and when they get bored of it they’ll understand the value of newbies. They still tell me to go to hell, but I just laugh at them and tell them what I think.

Am I a newbie here? Damn right!

Am I proud of it? Damn right!

Why? Because I know that I have to earn my keep here to be considered a good player, and I know that I can rely on the vets to help me along the way. I'll make mistakes, sure, but I'll learn from them and become a better player.

And some day, if I have the honor of joining a squad, I know it'll be because I've earned the squad’s respect and not because I’m there to fill a hole. And I'll also know it's because the vets have helped me learn how to be a valuable member of the squad.

I respect most of the inters and vets, and I want to thank those that have given me their advice and suggestions to help me become a better player. My hat is off to you. Kudos.
