I never see anyone playing with a wingmen and i really wonder why.
Even the best whore can't defeat a 2 vs 1 with equal tech, miner killing is almost to easy with someone who sticks to you like glue. In theory even massive dogfights are made easier if you and your wingmen stick together (within weapons range of eachoter, and attacing the same target).
Okay it does take a whole lot of practice to get it right... but if you have someone you play with often, isn't it worth it?
To effectively use a wingmen strat in alleg you need to take into consideration the following points:
1. Stay within weapon range of eachother.
2. Comunicate on selecting targets (always attack the same target)
3. Use the same thurster/boosting/cloaking strategy.
4. Understand the "dogfighting area" and stay out of the center. (Teamwork's useless when you get attacked from all sides)
5. Ammo and missile conservation. Do not overkill a target, specially not with missiles... It's easy to kill the first 3 enemies, it's the ones after that you need to save up for. Specially since dogfighting areas get smaller the longer the dogfigth lasts (convergence of targets)

I think it's a great idea. I think it would work really well without too much coordination necessary if you have one guy that acts as lead while the other guy acts as wingman. Then the wingman can just follow the leader. he's not boosting? I won't boost. He's got no shields? I'll unmount mine, etc.

I've played with wingmen before, only in PU games though really -- and that was 4-5 years ago.

The problem is when one of you is podding 3 sectors home while the other one gets pk'ed.
Do you wait for him, go without him, or get a new wingman?

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.

When I was getting my Allegiance wings back and Dorjan was almost brand new to the game we set up a private TS channel and flew as a 2-person wing in pickup games. Surprisingly efficient, since nobody else is doing it. Even two scouts backing each other up with open voicecomms is very effiscient. Fig & scout is excellent for miner hunting.
It's good fun and effiscient.

In PU games i usually tend to tag along someone if i see it fit. If i see someone miner huntig i usually tag along and try to kill the miner D and keep a bit fire off the lead so he can kill the miner. No, sometimes its better that way instead of 2 ppl having shot the miner because the nans fix often the miner up while both reload (happened very often).
There are also various other things i do with ppl i stick with. If i am belts and we have a tac, im gonna grab a sf or sb and follow one which i put faith in. In the process i push the SB when he is going for the base and nan it. Has also proven very effective.
I personally dont like having someone on my wing since it will often end up in chaos. When im alone and havent much to do, i go hunting ppl with high kb. I dont want anyone on my wing when i do this, because that spoils the victory and also the whole hunt.
On other occassion when i actually do need a wingman (Like for con/miner escort and d), i rarely have someone with me.
And Ahanehon, i actually do defeat 2 vs 1 with equal tech, but the 3rd is the one that kills me.
