I used it just like so in a ~150 player league for 2 years or so, we had no where near the depth of games used here, but we did have ratings that were more accurate then what I see with helo. The reason for that is compartive awarding of points.
ELO is used to rank single players (chess) or fixed teams (FIFA soccer teams), but Allegiance has every game new teams. In Allegiance ELO does not take care on indiviudal skill, it just rates the team skill.
Alleginace (H)ELO just rates the join the winning team skill.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
pkk maybe re-read my post. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
game 1 player a b c d e V player m u v x z
game 2 player f g h i j V player a z f g i
game 3 player x y z r t u V player r z y b d
If you are still confused, re-read it again. Still confused do a forum search. Still confused do a web search. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
Allegiance (h)elo like ANY SYSTEM that only cares about winning (which as far as I can tell includes TrueSkill/AllegSkill to a lessar more complex degree), JUST rates the join the winning team skill.

Baker, Elo/Helo has never been used for Alleg as a stable system that would take comparitive rankings within members of the same team. Anyway, I'd rather check out AllegSkill then try Elo/Helo anymore, either that or turf ratings completely. Or use my baking system, he who can bake peacan pies, butter tarts, and nanaimo bars gets the highest rankings- others get lesser rankings depending on their ability to enjoy said baking or comprehend it. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
n.b. I may not see a forum post replied to me or a pm sent to me for weeks and weeks...

That's been mentioned before and it's still a nice idea... however, how do we rank schlobs? /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I ask because it's the PuGs that are in most need of some # by their name in order to allos comms to balance (more or less) teams.

Was I sleeping during the whole ELO episode, too? I distinctly recall Pook establishing the system, and then tinkering and tinkering to try to get it to be accurate.
Unless by "stable" you mean "accurate" which is pretty much a mathematical impossibility (see, well, a few dozen posts above containing links to Sarge's critiques, as well as the TrueSkill MS page).

Actually "stable" shouldn't have been in there at all. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
All I meant is comparitive awarding of points for players on the same team. Those with more ability should get more of a share of points from games.
In effect you calculate a series of data between players on the same team with each other, that gives you how well each player would do against each other, you add those totals up, take the percentage compared to each other and award that percentage of overall points fromt the game to those players. Quick n dirty. It's a bit more complex then that and would require many more calculations then a simple team a v team b.
