I think that helo works in some cases, but really only shows how much a player WINS not how good they are.

there are far to many good players with low ranks

I play for fun and I couldn't care less what rank or points I have. IMHO it's more player attitude that make games funny then whatever ranking system. Ranking systems will be analyzed and manipulated to get the highest score.

I play some online games, most are stacked one way or another, and every ranking system has it's pro and cons. There will be whining whatever system. It's human nature to join the most powerful group, so there will be stack one way or another. Even respected anti-stack players use hiders because they are sick of anti-stacking all the time.

However I can imagine that the league players want some proof of their superiority.

Just get the data collector implemented, used the Datamine as a basis and ask if there are other data which should be collected, start collecting the data, release the data pr game in a XML file and let those that care about it, try and calculate the data into a "rank" that support the gameplay.

Its simple.. Let more people work on the data, rather then a few.

Let the rank which grasp the gameplay best, be used in the code.

Z

EDIT: Ill host the XML files collected from the different gameservers so we dont waste the bandwidth each time a new players want to grab all the data.

To those who think the ranking system isn't important: getting balanced games is probably issue #1 for alleg right now. The community rarely self-polices stacking and we don't have any other reliable way to achieve balanced games. I would much rather have competitve, non-stacked games than just about any other feature that our dev team is working on implimenting. So yeah, I think ranking is pretty damn important if it can achieve this.

Now, I would have been satisfied with a randomize function... but AllegSkill is much better /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Thanks Sgt. I won't post any more of my opinions on a system until your team is ready to release and want that level of discussions. You guys are listening to the community as evidenced by this poll. Means a lot to me at least, don't think I am alone.

The current system is highly inaccurate and I hate it.. I'm sick of the stack comments

Either replace it with something proven to be effective or remove ranks altogether.

Have the HELO rankings converged? If not, then is the HELO system just too slow for our patience?

Edit: does anyone know what kinda hours-played or games-played threshold is required for a player before HELO is "confident" of its rating for that player? Thanks.

Edit 2: and what does the H stand for in HELO? I tried to ask in NOAT once but obviously I just got nonsense and HELO hate back.
