ok, this is about how i can use my mouse to get a better aiming (keyboeard is crap in a fight)

at the moment i can toggle my mouse on and then when i move it, my aiming cross moves into that direction. BUT when i stop moving the mouse the cross doesn't, thus i think it moves according to the relative position of my mouse to the centre of the screen and thats even worse than keyboard aiming.

so i'd like you to explain to m where in the game options i can set my mouse to move my cross directly and have my buttons do something like fireing and ... something else.

i know my explanations are a bit difficult at (most) times, so just tell me if this isn't clear, i'll try again.

So let me get this straight... if you move your mouse to the right, your ship turns to the right, but keeps turning after you've stopped moving the mouse? Maybe I don't understand. But if I've got it right, then that's normal. You need to move your mouse back to the center to "fly straight" as it were. Also, take into consideration that the ships have "pseudo space" characteristics. Your ship has momentum in a direction... when you point your ship in another direction, it takes time for your ship to change vector completely. That's normal and part of the game flight design.

that's right. and as i do not see my mouse pointer while in that mode i have a difficult time putting my mouse back in the centre. so the thing i basically would like is that my ship turns right as long as i move my mouse to the right (same for other directions) and stop when my mouse is not moving, thus enabling me to follow the movement of the target by moving my mouse in that same direction. (just like in most other space flight games)
is there a setting for that?

edit: the momentum and vector thing is good and does not disturb me in any way. it's just the directional thing.

Moving your mouse moves your ship, which is unlike moving your head in a FPS game.
In Alleg, your ship's turn rate influences how well the ship will turn. That is why the mouse-aiming mode is called "Virtual Joystick". Moving your mouse all the way to the right is as if you moved a joystick to the right. Stop moving the mouse, and your joystick is still all the way to the right until you move it back to the left.
There is no option in Alleg to make it like a normal FPS game, because it would be incompatible with Alleg's game play, in which the ship's turn rate is an important factor.

If you wish to re-center your virtual joystick, which is akin to replacing your mouse exactly where it was before you moved it, you can de-activate and immediately re-activate the Virtual Joystick function by pressing NumPad 0 twice, thus stopping your ship from turning in any direction whatsoever. I myself use this function very often in order to fly straight.

To answer your second question: Esc, G, Map Keyboard & Game control.

You can map keys, mouse buttons, joystick buttons.

ok, that's what i wanted to know.
i will learn to handle the virtual joystick, will be better than keyboard aiming i believe.
