Back when Masta played these settings, his most often used tactic was to go IC on Inside Out and simply push his opening op next to or into the opponents home. From there the IC lt ints would kill the other team's economy before any relevant defensive tech could go up and the game would end.
Non-Squad games with low money often turn out like this: one team is significantly better at piloting ships than the other, and the commander's ability to mitigate this difference by running a superior economy and out expanding the enemy in order to get superior tech is limited.
Now, it takes MORE skill to run an economy on low money, so don't hear me wrong... but not matter how good you are at ordering miners around, the inability for your pilots to pod the enemy before you have enough time to get any tech leads to pickup game domination on low money.
why do no pickup games are played on low money settings?

which also leads to dead miners since your teams inability to hold their own in a fight will result in dead economy and perhaps the inability to expand as well

Beautiful, spideycles. Replies like this is why you're the Lord of Rants.spideycw wrote:QUOTE (spideycw @ Oct 18 2007, 04:41 AM) The reason I personally would not command on settings like that is in pickup games you are much more likely to get a team of idiots as not. Which leads to low money games making both comms want to tear their hair out. Which is bad cuz I have nice hair

@drizzo
the opening as ic is always an op, exept you are very very crazy and want to push a lonely teleport with lt ints and rip a techbase or something, but i wouldn't recommend it. besides, you can have as many teles as you want, if you have them camped and have no defensive tech that can rip you are not going to mine them (you will probably get pushed something there also). but again, that is just mho

Classifiable up to Trolleomorphism.
I'm prob gonna get flamed for this but...
In the newbie arena I run on med (when i comm as game commander) and Pheonix (yes nix!) and I order the whole team to scout and probe (good or badly depending on pilots) then send as many miners out as pos (and ALWAYS a SUP centre_. As soon as we have everything under control I have a SUP centre built and we have most pilots in fighters patroling (No attacking) whilst we build a firm cash flow. Maybe a squad of 2 will go out and look for a miner but we just make sure noone builds anywhere near our base of ops. Once we have a little tech (Bombers with anti-base 2 and turret 2's and fig (maybe adv figs) with seaker 2's and dumbfire 2's) we head out. Depending on players one scout, one bomber upto 3 figs then a second bobmer. we send the scout ahead to make sure we're not spotted and take out as much as poss.
This works usually with new players better because they follow orders! And even though the skill isn't always there (inc myself) we most often come out on top as their quick bomber rushes are counted by the figs with Dumbfire 2's and they aren't often able to kill my attack squad because they are too busy being podded and traveling.
Not perfect but shows some are trying and it is possable to have fun with low money (more so when your just learning as dogfighting skills really develop when using rubbish tech as it takes longer to kill lol) Good aim practice /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Anyway, just a n00bs 2 cent

I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.
