Wings anyone?!
I was aware that the last 3 could see them, and in fact I use them so I don't get the He mine or aleph found messages.
In my opinion, I don't think anyone should have a reason to not see drone orders, if someone does not, please enlighten me as to why.
Psyc, this suggestion does not compromise your wishes in any way, in fact you can be sure that whomever joins can see your orders and are not placed on attack wing.
But aside from who can see drone orders and what not, which not a big deal, I think the addition of a MEANING behind the chosen wing is what is important here. As you said, any charlie delta or echo get commands, and I can pick whichever, but why? Why should I pick Charlie over echo? I can assume it was done to set up teams for galv runs etc. , but I've never seen it used and my suggestion does not rule out this possibility nevertheless.
Here is a chance to take something that has one function and make it have a potential for two, without compromising the first.
Don't comment back saying it wont be used or everything already cool, because the idea allows for its occasional disuse, but comment on what is BAD about the suggestion, to see if any of it is detrimental to what we already have.
Or maybe I should just make a poll...
Anyways, thanks for being thorough guys, keep it coming. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I wondered how "wing" choices worked in Squad games...I had envisioned Squads utilizing "Wing" commanders of sorts, with their associated tasks and chats. But can see problems if this is not regularly 'practiced' and communications become muddled somehow by being 'filtered' thru a particular channel...TheBored wrote:QUOTE (TheBored @ Jul 29 2007, 03:13 PM) If squads don't use wings, pickup games won't use wings. Push everyone to command and be happy.
TB
In a game the other day, the command "Defend Miners" showed up, and the whole darn team rushed in from three directions to slaughter a lonely (0) scout. Almost at the same time, we lost an Op. Can wings work, so that say...4 or 5 guys are on Miner D, in a specific Wing. The "Defend Miners" command is displayed only to them, and they respond, leaving the rest of the Team to D or whatever ?.
I also get confused sometimes scouting...As to where I should be. Starting the game, Finding Alephs/Tech and Cash are a given. Usually a few guys stay back for Con D. I can usually scout (Depending on Map) All the way to the enemy home B4 our first Con launch's, then its a catch 22. Should I stick around and probe his home, seek miners, Finish the map ?, or rush back 3-4 sectors to the General Order "Defend Constructors" ?.
It seems, If I rush back leaving a few alephs unfound...we'll get chastised for poor scouting or probing. If I finish scouting and probing...And god forbid anything happens to the Con, you know the rest...(Scouting Wing ?)
Several commanders do this manually...Specifying who's doing what ahead of time, so theirs no confusion at all. And of course, any order precedded by "EVERYONE" is easy to understand...
I do like the EVERYONE commands...Mighty impressive when the whole team shows up somewhere for something. And usually insurmountable /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

They don't. Mainly for 3 reasons I can think of:spacejocky wrote:QUOTE (spacejocky @ Jul 30 2007, 10:22 AM) I wondered how "wing" choices worked in Squad games...
1) Everybody needs to know con movement,
2) Rock/Aleph discovery is important to know what sectors have been scouted and which haven't. Aso to know which alephs that were missing and are now found.
3) Normally people switch off of comm wing cuz of spam on team/all chat. In SGs, everybody is on TS, so there is no excessive scrolling on chat. TS is much better for communication, so there's no need to be on any of the other channels. Wing channels then become sorta obsolete.

I've tried TS in PUG's...but it seemed like someone(s) would start blabbing about something non-game related, then the few with the touchy voice mic's...Wild volume differences...Dog's and Cats fighting...even one guy who was AFK once, and we could hear his stereo over everthing else...lol, so I sorta found it more distracting than usefull. Also, I usually play late...and having TS up loud enough to hear even the soft ones, usually means the LOUD ones get heard next door...(I hate wearing headphones).
I can see where a squad would spend the time tuning TS for good communications, where PUG's sorta come as you are...making it less affective.

Wrong.
TS is always used in SGs put it can be used well in PUGs as well. If you are on the lobby of TS people will be just chatting, however if at least a few of the people on your team or on TS (espicially the comm), they will likely create their own channel with a pw so they can discuss things, improve reaction times etc. If you notice the people from your team on a seperate channel just type in game "TS pw?" and then you can be in on their conversation.
TS is also very useful if you want to learn, you can ask questions there and get more detailed answers because we are too lazy to type.

Wrong again.
everyone does know con movement but that is both on TS and also on most of the channels in game. you know which sectors have been scouted and alephs found by flying with the mini-map on. DO IT, you are blind if you don't. team and all chat is shown on all the channels (there is filter lobby if you want).
The main reason that wings aren't used in SGs is that you always know what you are supposed to be doing, and you are much more versatile than in game wings make you. You will often see groups organizing to do something together, however, they work well together and communicate well without the need for wings.
In PUGs wings don't work because people are stupid don't listen and have 0 game awareness. Don't complicate it with wings so you have even more reasons to be angry with your team. If you type that you want something done by everyone then give orders, type in CAPS, yell `yy etc. and people still don't do what they are supposed to do (I.E a regular PUG) then will they change if you call them delta?
