TheBored wrote:QUOTE (TheBored @ Jul 9 2007, 06:59 PM) Remapping those keys will erase a ton of useful keys so make sure to remap them to other keys. I don't think I could stand those keys away from WASD. Ripcord and target enemy are used so damn much...

Actually I changed some of mine after me and klt had a *private* trainning session on dogfighting and key mappings. I use "C" target center and "Z" "X" target next enemy and target previous enemy to target now. I still have Q and E mapped as target enemy base and target hostile though. One thing I find that I hate with this mapping is the "F" key when you're playing support role. Took me a while to find the bomber with "C" key and I still can't find a key near my left hand to map my target friendly on.
edit: This is mine, the simple version. I won't go list all the shift and alt and ctrl keys here, as I mapped everything even including target enemy bomber etc. on my keyboard just in case I need it.
WASD sidetrusting
RF forward and backward (ty klt)
Q target enemy base (default)
E target hostile
ctrl+R reload
Tab booster
space ripcord (I only use mouse or joystick to fly)
B target friendly base (default)
V drop probe/mines
As I said before, I have a gaming keyboard. My affirmative, negative, zoom in, zoom out, target mouse control and all other command keys are mapped on the left side G keys to present better access than the right side insert and delete keys.
I use standard \, backspace, [, ] for control of speed but I also have a scolling wheel that work the same way as mouse outside of game, but programable on my left hand side next to the G keys. I also have trust mapped on there, as well as zoom on my zoom keys on the left. The default are usable even on my normal keyboard with this mapping though.

TheBored wrote:QUOTE (TheBored @ Jul 9 2007, 06:22 PM) Why would you need forward and backward thrust? If you are dogfighting with that, my KB thanks you.

Forward and backward thrust are vital for many different purposes other than just dogfighting. For example, you MUST have it mapped so that you can create the same effect as vector lock. @Cadet has a section that goes into this in depth, so go take @Cadet if you want the real deets on thrusters. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
'sides, I'm the newbie here. Why are you asking me?!?!?! /glare.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":glare:" border="0" alt="glare.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

It's also a good thing to use when preventing a constructor to build:) I also usefor ram enemy bombers, too. It works to lower your damage but still do the ram trick, only at a slower speed in the last second. I'm sure I heard this from some vet when i was asking for advice but I seriously can't remember who. I'm guessing weedman?
P.S i need to stop having a post race with klt. Can't stand that.

I guess I will then, since being an instructor for your class taught me nothing! /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
And Angela, you get the same effect from boosting at the last second. IIRC, you are trying to get your acceleration up since that effects the calc. Last thing, there is no more 'boost trick' since it was removed in R1/R2 or something like that. Too bad, it was sooo much fun /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I hijacked a thread during my CDT stint and used it to blog my epiphanies. I believe I did write up something about thruster use. Did you not read what I had to say? AFAIK, it's been wiped when the current CDT-A group came in. You should'a paid attention then! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Yeah, I remember that. It was another cadet's thread about how KB = teh h4x. Sorry, back on topic. I'll be sure to pay attention next time Sir. I don't know what I was thinking at the time, I was just to durnk with teh powah. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

P.S. Seriously though, back and forward thrust are awesome but don't dogfight with them (unless you are a *fig* flying backwards throwing missiles at an int).

I found clustering controls for the left hand important. Even after six months, I am still adding keys to my cluster as I modify my flying technique. At this point I just erase everything from a setup and put in what I need. This makes remapping much faster. Target center on mouse three has been my best addition lately. I also use a wolfking circular keyboard.
If anyone is using the Dvorak keyboard layout and is interested in a keymapping for Allegiance, get in touch with me. I use a laptop as well, so its also oriented away from numpad usage.
