Suggested solution:

1) Uninstall Allegiance.
2) Manually remove both the folder(s) and the registry key tree (be careful about what you remove. Remove too much and you'll end up with a dead Windows install. Think brain surgery).
3) Restart and reinstall.

he means the stuff here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\1.0

not the whole registry /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I have re-installed after un-installing and deleting both the folder and registry keys.

Same result. ASGS logs in successfully, then fails to start Allegiance and logs out.

Hmmm... just a thought: you haven't messed with .NET 1.1 settings, have you?

I doubt it is a bad download. The first time I installed it was from the MaximumPC cd. Then I had downloaded from here and installed from that.
The problem was the same with each.

As for messing with .NET 1.1 settings, nope. In fact, that has been reinstalled as well in the hope that it was corrupted in some way.

This is very, very strange... Have you got SP1 for .NET 1.1?

Yes. I am up to date all the way to .NET 3.0. All updates installed.

Since no one has suggested it...antivirus. First go to the bitdefender website and get the most updated version. If it doesn't work after doing that, try temporarily disabling it and see if it works.

edit: well madpeople sort of mentioned it

edit2: I guess you don't have to go to their website to get the update "ensure that BitDefender is up-to-date: open BitDefender, go to 'Update' and click 'Update now'."

BitDefender updates automatically, and I am using version 10 - which is the latest major release.

I have tried it with all BD modules disabled, as well - to no avail.

It is not a connection issue - which is what it would be if BD was blocking something.
The main game fails to load from ASGS, but ASGS succeeds in logging in before that.

I can run the game if I start it from Allegiance.exe directly, but I can not enter the network game area if it is not started from ASGS.
