Having joined @Cadet, It is a WEALTH of information...Laid out in a step by step program designed to insure pilots get the basics 'Down'

Unfortuneatly RL has imposed so much since joining (I'm quite literally working 7 days a week atm, several of them 12-16 hrs, gotta make hay while I can) I'm only getting a few hours of gaming in a week. Not really enough I fear to get the most out of the Cadet program...(Nothing like 2 Mths ago when I was almost un-employed).

I have also gotten LOADS of advice "In-Game", both from my own and the opposing team Vet's...

In about 5 or 6 "GOOD" games on the VET's server since finding Alleg, I only really boner'd once by not paying close enough enough attention to my commander (Chat), which got me a well deserved boot, and more advice/training.

Overall, I think the community has been VERY supportive of NoOb's. And only hostile when confronted with blatant dis-regard for teamwork.

Even so...I don't think anybody coming into the game now, regardless of natural skill, can hope to be regarded as proficient, in less than a good many month's of training and practice...

there is nothing wrong with a newbie finding a helpful vet to tag along with.

it accelerates the learning curve exponentially.

So before I get accused of changing the topic of this conversation, here's what it was all initially about:

If I get this right, we're talking about the best way of helping newbs ingame. 'S matter of fact, I've dropped a few hints myself to a totally new commander (on the newbie servers, there again), on the lines of: "build a home tele", "carbon rock is blue", etc. Nothing he wouldn't have learned by going to the Academy, but hey, they don't charge you for being helpful!

As a side note, I'm currently tempting a friend by exagerating my ingame exploits. Guess I'll have to introduce him to the game when he gets in... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I agree with Camaro, also I would like to point out some well known facts:

- Wear thickskin when playing and be constructive, forget the insults and try to learn from experiences and vets insights.

- We all learn by our mistakes, be happy with them but at the same time learn from them.

- Noone was born learnt, all the vets that hassle newbies just show blatant stupidity, so take it as it comes and move on trying to rescue the information you need to get better from their input, as negative as it may seem you can learn a lot from it too..

- At the same time you'll find harrassers you will also find vets that will give you friendly advice, stick to them, ask them your doubts, be their wingmen and learn from them.

- Don't become an |...| when you have already grabbed some insight into the game and try to help everyone as best as you can and as kindly as possible, always remember how you started even if you are a gifted one and the most squared circled newbie crosses your path in the future.

Yes, TS is a must. Its much easier to speak it while your podding Apoch /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> , instead of typing what would probably be a long answer. Most, if not all people on TS will be willing to answer any q's you may have.

This is not a bad idea Wasp. Once @cadet's reorganization is finished and ACS is in the can, we can look at ways of accomplishing this WITHOUT making it a huge burden.

I'd like to add this:

Actually leave the commander alone, and ask someone else since usually you'll ask the wrong thing at the wrong time and wonder how you got back into the lobby. Another thread will get started etc etc.

Im not volunteering for every new guy but you and MrXZZYYZP ( spelling ) can both tag on my side if you want. I cant speak for the other RTs but my guess is you'll get a pretty good response. By no means are we the only ones who are nice to newer guys but if your shy I've got no problem "helping" some. The team speak channel can be less the friendly to those who act an arse but in your cases I think your golden.
