"Not my fault you're a noob"
do voobs hope to differentiate from noobs by being hostile to them? (oh man, one more idea for sociological research based on this game, '4)
and quickzip, a lot of squads have it in their rules that their squaddies should anti-stack, or at least not participate in the stack.
yes, not-nice things happen and ppl that do them take more attention than the quiet sort that really keep this game running, but they are not by any mean more numerous than ppl that simply wan to play and have fun.
we all play to have fun, but some don't get that it's even more fun if everybody is having a great time.
getting into a squad of like-minded pilots really helps. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

"South of the Alps and East of the Adriatic, paranoia is considered mental equilibrium..."

The harsh reality is i wont play for a newbie commander, it is just too stressful, badgering someone to play for a newbie is annoying and i dont stand for it. I do take the time most days to help new people, i can name a few people recently i took away for an hour + just to help them "pimper@cdt-a" being one of them. But i wont be badgered into playing for someone i dont want to play for. I would gladly help you become better and im sure if anything you learnt something today. I do think i was a bit harsh though.
Quickzip, I've been here for a month now. Most of the people I've met, are willing to help. On the other hand, dont expect from a person to be willing to help you all of the time. They are just human. We all get moody from time to time. For example, I once missed a ram and the same person that had helped me so much the day before, started shouting $#@!ING NOOBS $#@!ING NOOBS in "All" chat. Hehe, I said I was sorry and moved on. My point is, there is no reason to be discouraged. Dont talk much, do your stuff, and respect will come eventually. Anyone who has noticed me ingame, knows I dont talk much. I've only been booted once, just because I tried to help. Heard me complain? Nope. I just laughed, because I get drunk all the time and know exactly how that comm felt that night. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
And there are some players in here (Ive only noticed 2-3) who are moody all the $#@!ing time. But in real life you would choose not to hang out with such a person, right? Well, dont fly for or with them! I know there are 2 players in here I would rather stick my head up my $!s, than fly for them.
Take every insult light-heartedly, move on, respect will come.
Cheers!

I joined this game halfway through, as the stacked team (blue) was the only one that I could. I sat in base for most of this, giving advice to our newbie commander, (as was Apoch), there were some voobs who joined our team after this, I dont know why they did this, as if I was in that position, I would have joined your team, whereas I had only joined because it was the only team I could. Now our newbie comm, cant remember who it was, Apoch, any clues?, well he learnt A LOT from this experience, sure he may have had the majority of vets, but I'm sure some of the newbies on your team would have gladly came to ours if they were asked.
I left base twice i believe, one was, at the commanders instruction, to stealth bomb a refinery, where he wanted an op, I did this, and to keep balance (as the other team had adv tf sup, I went with shields, missiles and no cloak, so they would see me coming. I was eyed two sectors away, and I met one fighter who dispatched me just after I fired the last AB1. Surely if you could see a bomber coming for a predicted target, you would send most of your team there to defend it. The second time I left, I left to NG an op, I did this with a explanation about how NG worked, I once again did not use a cloak, and I was eyed 3 sectors away, but I was stopped before I could fire. This also showed the other newbie who was SB'ing that a NG SB had to get very close to fire his missile.
So, all in all I think I killed one minor base, whilst for the rest of the game sitting in base, giving advice w/apoch to our newbie comm. Apoch was also helping me with an ICE issue, and I dont think you were too harsh, I dont recall you ever saying "It's not my fault you're a newbie"

Yes, but the community hasn't exactly grown leaps and bounds over the last 5 years.spideycw wrote:QUOTE (spideycw @ Apr 16 2007, 12:43 PM) People have been saying this for 5 years. We are still here
Heh, that's probably about right. There are only a few hundred active veteran pilots in the entire community.Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Apr 16 2007, 12:47 PM) All 300 or so of us.
Wouldn't you complain or attempt to find out the reasoning why you got banned or kicked? While some people take the more "colorful" way of asking the question, a lot of these posts are genuine. All one has to do is simply reply politely as to why they were kicked and how to correct the issue. That's it!Sycrus wrote:QUOTE (Sycrus @ Apr 16 2007, 12:49 PM) why do new players always complain about one insult, or one boot, maybe one ban...seriously, before posting crap like this, please read the other topics and see where it went...
You've got a pretty good point. However, from the many games I've played, the community here is the most anti-friendly community I've ever seen. I think people fail to realize that they were once new to this game and didn't know the difference between a nan and a missile. The community needs to be more open and inviting to new players. I'm not saying we hold their hand every step of the way, but a general change in how the community views new players would go a long way.Elephanthead wrote:QUOTE (Elephanthead @ Apr 16 2007, 12:56 PM) And everyone knows that every other multiplayer game on the internet is just welcoming and great to new players. If your not willing to take your lumps as the stupid noobie, you will never enjoy any multiplayer game.
Exactly what would be involved in this endeavor? That's for another thread, but I think we could make a worthwhile difference if we all set aside our differences and put our heads together.
EDIT: Typo

My first year here, I remember telling someone I was sick so I could play Allegiance because I saw *25* people online. It was a Saturday night. This past week, I would just say "meh" to the 80 something people online... on a weekday.
If anyone expects to get several hundred online at a time, keep dreaming. (I totally see myself getting quoted a couple years from now. Kinda like the "Why would ANYONE ever need more than 5MB of disk space?" quote. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
