Tried it with AVG uninstalled and windows firewall turned off, still no go.

No, I don't think I've ever had another AV installed.

I haven't tried anything regarding router rules (my router setup is pretty much as default as it can be).

-I never tried it without any AV; didnt think about it while reinstalling

-Setting connection port to HTTP doesn't change anything

-Backtrak: already fixed my allegiance.cfg without any effect

-My hosts file is empty (except for localhost)

-No IE proxy settings

That's correct. The 'games list' button doesn't light up. I also imagine that I can't connect to the autoupdate server.

Copied allegiance.cfg into my /Allegiance folder, still not working.

Any other important config files I should have to get the motd?
