The Community Core
Developer: Various, see below
First Released: May 29, 2008
Latest Release: CC_11b

The Community Core is a core that, unlike others, is directly influenced by the wishes of the community and edited by a small group of people as opposed to a single developer. They offer a wide range of both core and game expertise as well as thoughts on gameplay balance. The Community Core team works together with the community as a whole to gather feedback, address issues and create new releases on a semi-regular basis. Releases have no set schedule, but tend to come out every one to three months.

You can view and participate in the various on-going discussions here.

History

The Community Core was founded by Apochboi on January 26th 2008. The project started as a general inquiry to Tigereye about the current state of Allegiance core development. In their messages it became apparent to Apochboi that there was a real need for a core that is influenced by the community, regularly updated and that listens to the real feedback. It was from then that Apochboi began forming a team to manage and run the core on the community's behalf. At first Apochboi approached the squad management of a few squads to see what they thought about building a new Community based core from an existing core, and the feedback he received was extremely positive. He then approached a few of the current core developers and asked if they would be interested. A couple of them declined. He then spoke to his own squad leadership about the project and found that aarmstrong was interested in developing a core with him. Aarmstrong would bring a unique perspective on core development to the Community core and was quickly accepted into the newly forming team. After Aarmstrong the rest of the roster fell into place.

Once Apochboi had his team together all that was needed next was an official Zone Leader to manage the project, for which Aarmstrong stepped up. The Community Core team and its forums were finalized and put in place a few months later and have been steadily updating the core ever since. spideycw replaced Aarmstrong as Zone Leader of CC in late April 2009. Apochboi also stepped down from the team around this time. Das Smiter was the last zone leader when he stepped down in late 2012 along with the termination of the Zone Leader system. As of late 2012 to 2013 Spunkmeyer is maintaining the core.

The first official Community Core release was CC_01b and was based off of Dark Nebulae.

Changelogs

CC_17

Released on

CC_16

Released on August 25, 2012 [codebox]

  • Rix and OH heavy scout dispenser capacity fixed.
  • Nan 1 loadout positioning fixed.
  • GT Research fix.
  • BIOS TT fourth slot emp mount fix.
  • New Econ now much, much closer to old econ based on feedback. Particularly TF is back to old style mining and there are no sub-1 yields.
  • Dreg He3 mines are now 900/min (was 750)
  • Aleph res float fix.
  • Seismic will now float.
  • Treasure chance cleanup so Aleph Res, Seismic, Gats, Mg, Sniper will be rare, everything else equal chances.
  • Harbinger of Doom reserch fix. Cost of the ship is also reduced from 20K to 10K so total cost goes down from (if I added up correctly) 126K to 116K
  • We are reverting to classic Alleg research style, Shipyard upgrades to Drydock and all ships are researched individually
  • There are only 6 ships divided between SY and Drydock as follows:

Frigate -> Cruiser (overrides, so all cruisers have cloak to avoid reduction in capability) Attack Carrier -> Assault Ship (overrides, so similarly Assault Ship gets hunters) Destroyer -> Devastator (prereq->successor but doesn't override, of course)

  • TF has a Ship of the Line and Flagship.
  • Rix Destroyer can now buy and mount Skyripper.
  • Ships are much weaker, but not too weak. The idea is a 4 player ship vs 4 enhanced or advanced level ships (based on tech level) is a fair battle. Sup will not have a significant advantage, exp will do well. However there is no way to work around the fact that ints will be a bit underpowered and heavies OP - this is because of the dual gun->triple gun issue.
  • Sup anti-cap gun is now Dis 3, not galv. Galv is anti-base only and does minimal damage against caps.
  • Killer base damage has been increased to 180 and 225 respectively, and they now have a special damage class allowing extra damage to caps. Otherwise caps were still too good vs tac.
  • Caps are nowhere near as vulnerable to res. A good shot should still hurt them but not destroy.
  • Research is 7500 and 10000 respectively, but ships are very cheap: Dests 1K, Devs 2K, AS and Cruiser 3K, everything else 2K. IC gets 20% bonus and OH Dev and Cruiser are 4K because you don't need to research any prereqs (this is because prereq ships don't exist - we can change the 'penalty', it's just an arbitrary implementation at this point.)
  • Quite a few SY stuff have been tweaked to make the above setup work. Killer Swarms, now that they work properly with the old 5-at-a-time setup, have been reverted. Skyripper also has been tweaked and uses a lot more energy so it's not going to be a viable large-base killer. Lancer has been nerfed a bit to be closer in effectiveness to the nerfed Hunters.

CC_15

Released on June 21, 2012

[codebox] -Supremacy gets a Breaching Resonator which has an Aleph Res prerequisite for 10K research and 4K per. This is a one-sided aleph res with otherwise same specs and double the mass. We are aware this could be OP but want to get feedback on it. This now overrides the gar res to avoid the hidden information effect which would have been disastrous with this much power

-Galv mass: 7->10

-Rix light int->int progression bug is fixed.

-XRM AB & XRP damage has been improved from 78 -> 92 and 97.5 -> 115 respectively for mkI and II. Reload time has been reduced from 6 and 5 seconds to 4 seconds for both.

-Regular carriers are replaced by Basic Carriers if SY flag is off. Basic carrier has half the energy regeneration rate of standard carrier (that means Giga gets the same carrier as everyone else if SY is off.

-Spec mines (including Dreg) are not available if SY flag is off.

-Heavy scouts have been restored to double payload.

-Dreg interceptor, scout and sf sizes have been reduced, TF sf size has been increased.

-Aleph Res 1 & 3 have been removed. Current Aleph Res has 2K range and gives you a Decoy Res for free with the same specs, however no damage. You can also store 2 per cargo slot. In essence it works the same as previous setup but a) the "hidden information" of res range is not as damaging to the enemy b) you don't need to spend as much money.

-There is now a Nan 3 that repairs 140/sec. It works like counters - you need starbase + an adv sup or exp to research it and the adv sup or exp to keep it. Nan 2 has been reduced from 120/sec to 112/sec to slot in better between Nan 1 and Nan 3. Tac doesn't get this primarily because they normally don't need them and we didn't want to give Belters stealth Nan 3 with just a tac.

-Pulse laser damage has been increased 10% (over gat3, still mini class)

-Pulse Probe 1 range has been increased from 3000 to 4000 as at 3000 it was completely worthless vs stealths.

-TF Sup now has the usual Sup discounts applied.

-Cruise booster has been removed. LB2 gives very similar results, and cruise booster stats were too close to Booster 2 otherwise.

-Rix SFs no longer have a signature penalty.

-TF TTs now have energy so they can use their emp cannons.

-Minidis has been removed from GT heavy int default loadout.

-Several parts had their masses adjusted Prox Mines & Plasma gens: 3->2 Mine Packs & Heavy plasma gens: 2->1 Sanctuary: 10->5 (equal to RP & beacon) Combat Drone: 3->2 (equal to Hunter missile) Heavy Drone: 4->3 (equal to Killer missile) Station Drone: 5->3 (equal to AB) Heavy Station Drone: 10->4 (equal to Tac Nuke) Seismic Drone: 5->3 (equal to SRM Seismic) Nanite: 2->1 (equal to all other scout guns) Aleph res: 60->30

-Finally there will be two versions of the core. One will have the old econ we are used to. The other will have the new econ, which equalizes miner capacities and introduces more efficiency and mining speed differences to work around the design flaw in the game where increased capacity did not result in better econ without screwing around with settings. We are doing this to get feedback and will consolidate for CC16.

The new econ settings are as follows (Capacity, efficiency and mining speed)

Giga: 1.25, 1 & 1.1 BIOS/Rix: 1, 1 & 1 Belters/Dreg: 1, 1.1 & 0.5 GT: 1, 1 & 0.8 Omicron: 1, 0.95 & 0.7 IC: 1, 0.85 & 0.65 TF: 1, 0.7 & 1.1 [/codebox]

CC_14

Released on January 25, 2012

INCOMPLETE Change Summary

[codebox] Changes from CC_13 to CC_14

  • There won't be any changes to SY this release, postponed to CC15.
  • Asteroids can now be nanned and be damaged by Lancer (that means they can be damaged by HKs too but the damage is very low)
  • More points for non-DM activities

-Miner kills=20 pts -Constructors=40 -Carrier=30 -Base Kill=50 -Base Capture=75 -Rescue=10 -Player=8

  • Rix starts the game with light ints.
  • Rix energy generator signature increase have been reduced from 900% to 300% to avoid use in deprobing
  • The following techs have been boosted:

SRM Seismics (75% more damage), MRM Seismics (50% more damage) Killers and SRP Killer (25% more damage), Minepack 2 (20% radius and duration increase, also MP1 floats), MRM Seeker (mk 2 has 1400 range, lock cones wider, less mass)

  • The following ships have been boosted:

Patrollers are faster without boosters (speed 110->140, thrust 930->1200, fuel 6->5), Light-sfs are not as crippled (same energy as std sf, lead indicator, more hp for TF light sf)

  • TTs can now capture ops more easily: 4 emp guns on board, emp damage increased 50% on minor bases. Realistically some int support or dual TT runs required. They cost 500 per.
  • Interceptor fuel has been reduced 20% - ints and heavy ints will have same fuel as current light ints. We have debated this a lot back and forth, overall we think it'll benefit the game and it has been playtested before without adverse effects.
  • Giga special mines redone so they are more similar and Si mines are no longer the easy choice. Si mine income reduced to 1500. U mines are stronger. Ca mines are stealthier.
  • Fighters will find it slightly more difficult to gun down light bases. Ints will find it quite a bit easier to gun down light bases.
  • Dreg He3 mines are now light so can be gunned down. They are also cheaper (7000->6000), just as strong vs bombing (50% stronger shields) and have improved scan range (2000->2400)
  • Giga lux craft are no longer so obviously overpowered. Each retain 10% HP improvement. Figs have 4 guns and 33% extra ammo. Ints have 20 seconds ripcord capability. SF has lost the med shield and has 33% more missiles and 25% more energy. All other perks, including the lead indicator, have been removed.
  • Lux patroller and lux scout are now obtainable if you have adv tech + starbase, and have 10% extra HP. Lux patroller adds med shield. Lux scout now has all the perks of a heavy scout + AC turret. All other perks removed.
  • BIOS TP1/TP2 research costs have been doubled to slightly slow down BIOS TP2 rush.
  • Unused GT techs have been slightly enhanced and reduced in cost: Rescue drones, Ion Booster, Solar Charger and LRM Anti Base are now half-cost. Ion Booster no longer uses any fuel. Solar Charger no longer increases sigs and charges 50% faster. Light cloak no longer drains SF energy.
  • Other GT tweaks: GT can also mount and research MRM Quickfire. GT mining efficiency restored to 100% (.95->1).
  • SS2 has been moved to sup. Also Med shield 2 and 3 HP has been increased slightly (350->375, 400->468)
