Introduction
Rolling Thunder joined the Allegiance community shortly after the source release. As such, they were mostly new players, and thus would have a hard time winning against established squads. However, probably due to their maturity, they were able to play many squad games quickly in the simple hope of learning, not kicking ass. And so they did, finally beating every active squad at least once by November 2008.
Here is a word from their founder, Badger:
"Formed in November of 1997, Rolling Thunder emerged as a small clan in the game of MechWarrior2 (Netmech). Always striving to be a clan of honor and skill, those goals still remain today. Rolling Thunder survived through all of the later version of MechWarrior as well. It was during MechWarrior 4 that we tested our abilities in the BattleZone League. We fought against many other units and clans. We stood our ground and proved ourselves. Those days are long gone by. Now Rolling Thunder is but a small group again. Those of us who joined together in this clan remain a tight knit family and waiting for the day when RT may rise again. RT Forever..."
RT recruited aggressively and was probably the squad that benefited the most from Romeo's @Cadet training program, recruiting trainee after trainee to eventually form a force that, while it could not hold its ground against the top of competition, it could certainly do so against the rest of it. RT thus became the first newbie-formed squad to gain credibility.
They are now lead by Raveen and have beaten all the Allegiance squads at least once, the years of work finally paying off. Another squad whose members contribute an immense amount of community assistance.
RT finished 4th in the Allegiance Squad Tournament in 2007, and 3rd in the 2008 competition. Both times they were knocked out by the eventual winner of the competition.
Code of Conduct
The primary goal of Rolling Thunder is to provide a community for people that share similar values. The Code of Conduct is based on those values. We, the members of RT, don't only act on these values; we promote them within the Alleg community. Surprisingly, these values are not much different than those most people would expect of themselves or their friends in real life. Even more surprisingly, holding to these values makes us nearly unique in the Alleg community.
Our primary values are:
- Respect: for all individuals, regardless of skill level, both in game and out of it.
- Communication: open, honest, and friendly discussion, especially in matters affecting the squad.
- Excellence: a commitment to give our best, and improve our best, especially at squad games.
- Fun: the grease that keeps the RT machine from overheating and breaking down.
These primary values have broad implications for our behavior
- RTs do not bash newbies. Instead they actively support and encourage them.
- RTs do not use abusive language.
- RTs do not flame other players or squads. (occasional rants are fine, just don't make it personal)
- RTs do not stack.
- RTs do not cheat.
- RTs do not use hider nicks to mask bad behavior.
- RTs do not recruit from other squads (but we do occasionally welcome defectors)
- RTs play to win, not to whore.
- RTs keep up to date with the forum and the website, and participate in squad votes.
- RTs strive to improve their skills through pickup games, squad practices, etc.
- RTs do not value Allegiance over real life.
- RTs do not take themselves too seriously.
