Why won't my commander buy the tech I want or buy cap ships?

In Allegiance, each team is commanded by one player, the commander. He decides which ships and technology should be purchased. It is their choice based on the location of the tech rocks, what factions the team is, the skillset of the players on the team, and perhaps even what he simply feels like.

Remember - you are playing for him. While it is a team effort, you are still subordinate to him and will either play with him and his tech or leave. If you start backseat commanding, your commander will immediately become defensive. It is his game... who are you to secondguess his decisions? In the end, he is the one holding the boot stick.

Games are normally won with only one or two tech paths, based on the amount of money available to harvest. This scarcity of Helium will generally make your commander decide against a shipyard because the money is better spent in another tech path. Shipyard ships are S-L-O-W, expensive to RESEARCH, and each of them cost a GREAT deal of money to buy.

Meanwhile, as soon as they spot your shipyard the other team will have started upgrading their existing tech to counter your capital ships. Going shipyard as a technology path is a difficult strategy, and very few commanders succeed with it against a skilled team.

In short - It doesn't matter what you want as a player on a team, it matters what the commander wants. Do not worry though, the commander is trying to get you better tech. Give him some time, defend his miners, and you will get the tech that you need.
